Do my words represent my ideals, my dreams?

I have been reflecting on the lessons we can learn from Martin Luther King Jr.’s life (and death) since watching the “I Have A Dream” speech with my kids and the discussion that ensued on Monday.

I know that I want to further my dream that my children will grow up happy and healthy and be successful in whatever they choose in life.

I know I want to further my dream that their world will be happier and healthier than it is now.

I know I want to further my dream that I will make a difference.

I have been thinking about the power of words, my words, for myself and my family, but also what I hope to accomplish in the world.

I wanted to see what message my written words might be projecting…

what i amI put this blog into Wordle to see what would come and if these are the words that I want to represent me. I think about my words that I speak and wonder if they would be anywhere close to what I would want them to be.

I think I am close in my written word, but not quite there. I love that “people” is the biggest one of all. I love that “world,” “responsibility,” “change,”and “children” are right up there near the top. By next year I expect to see more and bigger words that reflect my ideals, passions, and dreams.

What are yours?

If you have a blog or website, give it a try and see what you see. (If you do, leave a link in the comments to the Wordle you create or your blog if you post it there. I would love to see them.)

Hello! I’ve come from ICLW and just wanted to let you know that I think you have a lovely blog. I read your “About the all of me…” and I really resonate with many of your intentions.

I think this post in particular is great. It’s such a good question for everyone to ask themselves, I think. It is for me. Sometimes we can forget just how powerful our words and thoughts can be – and I appreciate this reminder you’ve given. I’m definitely gonna go try my own Wordle!

    Stopping over from ICLW.

    Love the Wordle!

I tried to put my blog in, but it didn’t work, which is a bummer. You’re right in the power that words have—especially the words we use all the time with those we love.

  7. @Tonya- Thanks for stopping by. :)

@Jeff- Thanks for the compliments. If we can all reach one person to think about the power of their words, I can imagine what a positive cgange that would make.

@Shayne- Oh bummer! I know the url has to have an rss feed. maybe check to make sure yours is working.

@Christine- Thanks, let me know if you try one!

Isn’t it amazing how MLK’s words can inspire us to think about how to better ourselves and the world around us, so many years after he spoke them? His messages of peace, self-respect, respect for others and service to the community are universal, making me think that we need more people like him to guide us in a time when other political and religious leaders have failed to inspire. Thank you for prompting my own thoughts today.

I love wordles- yours is nice and reflective of your blog- I was just talking to my husband about this the other day a saying in our faith that if everyone just tied their camel and made sure their families were okay, we’d have a perfect community. I love that you are considering how YOU can make a difference- if we all did this what a different world we would live in.

Thanks for dropping by my blog- enjoying yours and will be adding you to my reader- I love that about ICLW- finding other great bloggers in the blogosophere :)

What a great visual! Thanks for planting that seed, what a great idea to share. If I could leave a sentence to remember, it would be something like this: “Every child deserves the opportunity to shine, and through his or her light, to brighten the world.” Thanks for posting and making me think about it. Happy ICLW–

  11. Thank you so much for visiting me on my SITS day! What an incredible gift to give to your children — to sit down and share Dr. King’s speech with them.

What a satisfying result in that wordle! It really says a lot about your depth, inner beauty and quality of character!
