I admit it. I think I might love this book just for the cover alone. Isn’t it lovely?
The Eco-nomical Baby Guide: Down-to-Earth Ways for Parents to Save Money and the Planet
But, when I got into reading what authors Joy Hatch and Rebecca Kelley, of The Green Baby Guide, have to say about living “thrifty green”, I realized how much value there really is in this book. It is incredibly easy to spend huge amounts of money and get only the best eco-friendly products available for your baby. The real key to going green, which is epitomized in this book, goes back to an earlier generation with an updated twist: save time, money, and the planet while utilizing new modern inventions.
The best thing about this book is that there are no judgments, no holier-than-thou attitudes. The most important thing about this book is that by following the advice you can really save a lot of money. This is the real green. Make use of what you have, reuse what you can find, and stop spending money on useless things! Repeat after me: reduce, reuse, recycle. You can’t beat that.
While this may seem like common sense to some, there are some great ideas in this book that I hadn’t even thought of! Learn more about:
- What does baby really need?
- How to buy used baby gear.
- Supporting eco-friendly companies.
- The great diaper dilemma
- Cloth diapering 101
- How to feed your baby and save the world
- Eco-friendly tips for special circumstances

I would love to win this book for my son and daughter in law who is 8 weeks pregnant. My daughter in law is a vegetarian and also works as a zoo technician, we both agree that people should be more earth conscious. This is my first grandchild and would love to learn along with my, daughter in law and son, about all of the ways we can achieve our goal of helping the earth, bringing up the children in our family as earth conscious individuals and also saving money at the same time. Thank You very much for this opportunity.
I would LOVE to win this book! My husband and I have been looking for ways to do just this – save and be more earth conscious. We have decided on cloth diapers for sure! And plan to make our own baby food (we are expecting our first in September!) BUT more suggestions are more than welcome!

We have a bright eyed 3 month old bouncing boy. His father & I had a fantastic earth aware midwife that supported us for our home birth. Since we don't get to see her regularly any longer we'd love to get some tips that will be more greenish + we are also avid readers. I've been vegan for a decade & want to do more for Mother Earth.I love that more parents are leaving a much smaller footprint was talking to another local mom recently & she said her 5 year old asks if his food is organic before he eats it, love that =)
We're starting to be more eco-friendly and I've been looking into several different ways.
I'm expecting my first child in November. We work hard at practicing ec-friendly habits around our home. This book looks like it has some practical, useful information on how I can continue after baby is here.
I have the privilege of having two libraries I can browse. One of the two has this book! I was a little amazed and a little proud of the wide variety and selection this one library has.
I am expecting a little girl on August 31st and I have been researching how I can go green…and am making some progress before she arrives! I would love this book because it would give me more resources to encourage me to not be so lazy! I am very concerned about what goes into her little body and what she is exposed to, as well as saving our planet.
good luck………..
would love to win
first grandbaby due in december
Not at our library : ( First baby due in June!!!!!!
It sounds like this book emphasizes a less is more, back to basics approach to environmentally conscious living. I worry that environmentalism and environmentally conscious living are often turned into branding ideas, and I love that this book is about getting away from the products and getting down to business.
I'd like to win because our first baby is in our near future and I want to have some knowledge of what's really needed to responsibly care for both the little one and our earth, without getting caught up in the hype by all those people selling so-called eco-friendly baby gear.
Thanks for the chance to win!
