Deepwater Horizon Spill

Deepwater Horizon Spill

On April 20, 2010, BP’s Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf of Mexico killed 11 oil rig workers, injured 17 others and released about 4.9 million barrels of crude oil for three months into the ocean. This disaster devastated the Gulf region’s economy, and threatened—and continues to threaten—the health of its residents and the environment.
